From the Garden

August 1, 2012

It’s been a while since I lasted posted pictures from my parents’ garden – which is a shame, really, because there are always so many pretty things to see…

There are, of course, the water lilies on the pond which are always amazing…

…but there are also less conspicuos sights and sounds like the wind among the reeds…

…or water striders moving upon the surface of the pond in silence…

Some of the water plants look almost like pieces of abstract art…

…while half-wild flowers on the edge of the pond…

…do a good job at almost outshining the exuberant hibiscus…

Farther back, among the twigs and brambles, the berries on the hawthorn are already turning red…

…and blackberries are turning from red and green  into glossy purple clots:

Summer’s blood – as Seamus Heaney once beautifully put it – is in them.
